I'd like to share with you this set of reggae influenced pop tunes that I played for the fans of Rebelution/Soja/Zion-I, up in the Poster Room Lounge @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, on Wednesday January 20th, 2010 as "Professor Phil Moore, Jr.", for my mythical radio program "Just for the Record", broadcasted live on my imaginary radio station "KBGP, 98.7 FM, in San Francisco".

Happy 81st Birthday to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I'd like to take this time today to say hello to all of the people who have visited my blog since it's inception 9 months ago, on April 10th, 2009.

One of the coolest things on my blog is the "flag counter", which shows the visits from viewers living in countries all around the world.

To know that my blog is being viewed globally is quite a thrill for me.

As of today, Friday January 15th, 2010 "Through My Eyes" has been visited by people in 56 different countries, since I added the flag counter on October 24, 2009.

I want to wish every single one of you a happy, healthy, & prosperous new year in 2010!

Today also would have been the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King's 81st birthday, which will be officially celebrated as a national holiday here in the United States this coming Monday, January 18th, 2010.

I have put together a playlist of 200 songs with the common theme of love, peace, & happiness in honor of Dr. King's tireless efforts of trying to make this world a better place for people of all colors, religions, and nationalities, not just in America, but around the world.

Seeing all these beautiful flags on my blog page has really led me to start thinking more globally.

And so with that I leave you with these songs of inspiration!

Teddy's memory through his music, will live on & on in the hearts and minds of his millions of adoring fans around the globe, forever.

James Marshall Hendrix (11/27/42 - 09/18/70)

Hey there Readers,

Today marks the 39th anniversary of the passing of Jimi Hendrix, the most exciting and innovative guitarist of our generation.

I remember exactly where I was on that fateful day, Friday September 18, 1970 when I heard the news that Jimi Hendrix had died.

We had only been back in school only a few short weeks, after a wonderful summer that included the release of the "Woodstock" film from the previous summer's epic festival in upstate New York, that featured Jimi's awe inspiring rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner".

My classmates and I at Bal (where Jerry Garcia had attended 11 years earlier) had turned 15 years old that summer, and were just beginning our sophomore year, when the word had spread throughout the school that Jimi had died of an overdose of pills and alcohol in England.

We were all totally devastated, and in a complete state of shock in the realization that would we would never ever get to see Jimi Hendrix play again.

It was really just beyond our comprehension at that time that the most prolific musician that we had ever known was no longer with us.



Everyone was shocked, bummed and crying, but none the less grateful for the fantastic music that Hendrix had given us in his short 5 year reign as the most awesome guitarist any of us had ever seen or heard.

One of the most memorable experiences of my life occurred on January 15, 1992 when I won a raffle to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards ceremonies at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where I got a chance to meet Al Hendrix, who was there to induct his son Jimi into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After Hendrix's induction we talked for a few minutes about Jimi, and the indelible impression that he had left on the world, when Al said to me "you know, you kind of remind me of my son", and at that moment I couldn't help myself as I broke out into tears, like I'm doing right now.

I shook Al's hand and thanked him, and then went back to my table knowing that I would remember that moment for the rest of my life.

In tribute to Jimi I have compiled 45 of Hendrix's songs for your listening pleasure.

Doobie Brothers @ Fillmore Auditorium, S.F. Thu. & Fri., Sept 10th & 11th, 2009

Last night as "Professor Phil Moore, Jr." I DJ'd in the Poster Room Lounge at the world famous Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, for the first of 2 nights with the Doobie Brothers.

To say that these were highly anticipated performances is an understatement because I grew up in San Francisco during the Doobie Brothers hey day in the 1970's when they were riding high on the radio with hits like "Nobody", "Listen to the Music", "Long Train Runnin'", "China Grove", and "Black Water"

After spinning 16 songs (all on vinyl!)in 2 sets drawn from that epochal music period from 1971 to 1981, my co-worker Erin and I rocked out to the timeless tunes that the Doobs played with complete reverence and joy.

I renewed my rock and roll vows yet again last night.

It was so great to see and hear original members Tom Johnston & Pat Simmons playing the songs that made them famous for 39 years now.

I've included some photos that I took of last night's show at the Fillmore.

Well what a cunundrum I have tonight ,AC/DC at the HP Pavilion or Def Leppard/Poison/Cheap Trick at the Shoreline Amphitheater?

As much as I'd like to be rocking out with Angus, Brian & the boys, I think it's gonna be just too steamy in the Shark Tank tonight, not that that's a bad thing, but I' think I'd rather be outdoors rockin' out to 3 killer bands instead.

In the meantime I guess we'll just have to be content with jammin' out to my latest playlist featuring who else?

Woodstock 40th Anniversary (1969-2009)

Ahh yes, Woodstock.

Even though it was established as a township in upstate New York in 1787, for the past 40 years the name has been synonimous with one of the most widely known cultural events of our lifetime, the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, held on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York from Friday, August 15th to Monday, August 18th, 1969.

Unfortunately, my parents forbade me to go to the event, and said if I did go, to not bother coming back home.

So instead, I waited a year for the movie and the soundtrack album to come out, to experience what 300,000 attendees heard and saw that wonderful summer weekend.

It is my pleasure to re-create the awesome musical performances at Woodstock by compiling some of the songs from each performers set, in chronological order, into a playlist of 142 songs.

Les Paul (June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009)

Today the world lost one of the great innovators in music, guitar legend Les Paul, who passed away today at the age of 94 from complications from severe pneumonia.

Countless guitarists over the last 50 years have played and revered their Gibson Les Paul guitars, including myself, having owned my 1958 Les Paul Jr. since 1975.

Les's contributions to the world of guitar music can never be overstated.

I hope you enjoy the songs by Les Paul & his wife Mary Ford on this tribute playlist.

Les Paul, you will truly be missed, and your legacy will live on in the music of many of the great guitarits of our time.
